I  Technology

Project Mouse is a personal repository of notes and solutions for issues I, Nate Royer, can remember and access the information again as well as providing access to others who can potentially benefit from this information as well. The operating system issues are normally Apple-centric technology but tend to lean in the direction of the open-source side of Mac OS X and the command-line. The top-line purpose of this site is as a personal teaching device, a proving ground for the knowledge gained and as a place to display that which hopefully has have learned.

This site also address the enormous subject of web technologies and their uses. I do follow Tim O'Reilly's belief of using "the Web as a platform" as well as Tim Berners-Lee's mission to "use the Web to its full potential". I do tend to focus on the server-side technologies more than the front-end and design aspects of web technologies. I constantly feel the need to "build it myself" (DIY) instead of using the ever growing number of canned/commercial solutions available. This choice drives me, even to fault, to learn how to build similar systems from the ground up. These systems are not always build to the same level of efficiency or usability that the collaborative projects enjoy but on the flip side I have been able to learn a great deal more about the various aspects of the computing systems though my efforts of trying to emulate them.

I do have a bias for using the Django Web framework and Python in my application development as well as for general computing solutions. My skills lay somewhere in the intermediate level as a Python programmer but I am slowly climbing my way up in proficiency as a personal and daily goal. I have enough of a base knowledge in JavaScript, Objective-C, Ruby, ActionScript, Perl, PHP, ... to get into trouble but always find myself gravitating towards Python because of the maturity of the programming language and for the readability of the programs months after having been written (Ruby you're getting there, keep at it kid.).

You can find my blag over at nateroyer.com/blag/, pictures of my cats on the same site at nateroyer.com/images/meows/ and some sketch style drawings at box2small.com/drawings/.
